1 DAY WORKSHOP - MAKE A LEATHER SHOULDER BAG
St Leonards offers you an exciting taste of the Seaside HQ studio experience - come join us for a 1 day workshop in leathercraft.
The workshop takes place over 1 day, from 10 til 6/6:30pm in the studio area of the new shop.
This workshop takes you gently through all the stages necessary to make a stylish shoulder bag consisting of a choice of either shoulder length or short carry straps and either an external front or interior patch pocket. Using a nude untreated cowhide you'll be taught how to trace around a pattern, mark out all your notches, punch holes, cut the leather panels out with a knife, rivet studs in place, fix a press stud and stitch the peices together using an Adler industrial walking foot machine.
The leather is firm and very pale but with time and wear will develop it's own unique patina and become a soft flexible and honey tan shade of brown.
Please note that the bag's final dimensions may vary slightly from those ordered as finished bags online as the finished article, as I need to make x 2 bags fit out of every hide to make the workshops viable. Animal hides are, by nature, iregular in shape and there's usually up to 30% wastage per hide so that's why I need to have this leeway in this item.
Class numbers: 2 people
Accessibility:There is a step to access the shop. Much of the time is spent standing at a cutting table. Perch stools available to lean on. You will need to be able to sit at a sewing machine.
Age: Due to the industrial powered equipment and tools, you must be 18 years old or over if you're a novice to sewing using a sewing machine. If you're younger than 18 but have had lots of experience using a domestic sewing machine, by all means get in touch and St Leonards can chat through the safety issues with you and see if you can attend.
Ability: This course and product has been designed to suit all abilities. If you're a complete novice you'll be able to make a bag and be pretty pleased with the results. It might be a little wobbly and rough around the edges but it's going to be lovely to use and will become a treasured seaside souvenir - much better than a stick of rock or a High Street made bag for that matter! And if you've worked with leather before and can handle a domestic sewing machine your results should be just as pleasing and more refined. You'll be smug and beaming with pride.People will be asking where you bought it from!
Booking and Payment: Course deposits are booked through the website and are non-refundable. You will be sent a confirmation email with travel instructions and other important information about the day. Please read them thoroughly and sign the document and email it back to confirm your place.Non-attendance: If you can't make it to the workshop due to illness please contact St Leonards to carry it over to another date that's more suitable, or donate it to a friend to take your place.
Since the shop's opening the workshops now need to be held on either a Monday as this is the quietest retail day.
*If Monday is no good then a Saturday can be made available. Please get in touch with "K" and she'll do her best to get someone else to cover the shop. Because of this, there's an additional charge of £50 per person to go towards the extra staffing costs this will incur.
